We are hiring

Evidence-first hiring

Hiring should be based on real work.

Take practical assignments that show how you think, build and verify. Your work is reviewed by a person, and the useful evidence stays with you.

Let's get started

A person makes every decision.

Four things that are yours, whatever we decide.

Most hiring ends in silence. This ends with artifacts you can show anyone.

The working project

Yours to show, extend or throw away.

Your walkthrough

The recording, and its transcript.

A scored profile

Ten dimensions, each tied to evidence.

Written feedback

On the work, approved by a person.

Private until you publish it, and nothing goes outside 8x unless you opt in.

Three assignments. Real work, not puzzles.

A1 is the entry assignment. A2 and A3 come after a decision, with their tooling funded.

A1 / Build01

Ship end to end

Build a working product from zero. Your machine, your tools, your process.

Effort
About 8 hours across 5 days
Shows
Whether you finish
A2 / Improve02

Improve a rough flow

Make a rough flow better, and decide what to leave alone.

Effort
About 3 hours
Shows
What you choose not to build
A3 / Debug03

Fix what you did not write

Find the root cause in a codebase built to be awkward.

Effort
About 6 hours
Shows
How you navigate unfamiliar code

Every brief states its rubric, its AI policy and its publication rules before you start.

The deal, in full.

Eight hours of unpaid work for a company you have never met should make you suspicious. So here it is.

About 8 hoursacross 5 days.

Schedule
You choose the hours.
Cost
It is free.
Decision
A person decides.

AI organises the evidence.

People make every decision.

Questions worth asking first.

Is the assessment paid?

No, unless a specific role says otherwise. We fund tooling for the later assignments, never participation, and we never charge you for anything.

Can 8x use my work commercially?

No. Assignments are built for assessment and are never live 8x client work. We keep your submission to evaluate you, and to introduce you to other companies only if you opt in, company by company.

Can I use AI coding tools?

Yes. That is rather the point: we want to see how you work with them, not whether you can avoid them. Each brief states its own policy, and your session log is one of the things a reviewer reads.

What activity is captured?

Your repository and final commit, an optional deployment, a walkthrough recording, and the session log your coding agent already writes. You run the exporter yourself, review what it includes, and upload it deliberately. We do not record your screen and we do not watch you work.

What if I miss the deadline?

Tell us before it passes. Extensions exist and asking for one is not held against you. Accommodations and alternative paths are available for both the assignment and the walkthrough. If something broke on our side, it never costs you a score.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. You can request an export or a deletion at any point. The retention period for each artifact type is stated on the role page before you apply.

See the work. Know the deal. Then decide.

No account needed to read any of it.
